About Us

The Allentown Police Athletic League exists to provide mentorship, service, athletics, recreational enrichment, educational opportunities, and resources to our youth living in the City of Allentown . In addition, there are occasions where APD PAL provides opportunities through-out the year for Youth Mentors to learn how to give back to our community by engaging in positive events and community service to our Elder, Veteran, and Unsheltered communities.

Our goals are based on the conviction that young people - if they are reached early enough - can cultivate strong positive attitudes towards/with law enforcement in their journey through life, with the goal being that of maturity, inclusiveness, and good citizenship. The PAL program experience, brings youth, under the guidance and positive influence of law enforcement agencies and/or community based not for profit organizations, to expound upon the public awareness regarding the role of law enforcement and the reinforcement of the responsible values and attitudes instilled at a young age.  Our PAL programs provide leadership opportunities for youth to be a part of the process of establishing positive relations with law enforcement, while also allowing them to have a voice and be heard.

3 Pillars

Since the 1950's, Allentown Police Athletic League has been empowering youth through a number of enrichment programs. At Allentown Police Athletic League, we believe that an essential part of making a difference is to keep residents in the know about all of our latest updates by fostering a positive environment where our cities Youth and Police Officers together can create, provide, and maintain a positive relationship through Mentoring and Community involvement.

1.  Improve the moral, physical, educational, and civic standards of youth.

2. Promote friendship, fairness, and good will among our youth.

3. Stimulate a respectful and friendly relationship between youth and police officers along with our community.

DET. JIM STANKO FUND

Remembering Det. Jim Stanko EOW 1/17/2022

Detective (Det.) James Stanko, passed in the presence of loved ones. Everyone has the same wonderful, lasting memories of Detective Stanko. Wherever he went or with whomever he spoke, the outcome was always the same. He left you feeling happy during the most difficult of times, an indelible mark that one could never erase. He was a difference-maker in so many people’s lives. His charismatic personality loomed larger than life itself. His passion and voice continue in the lives of those he touched.

With the blessing of his family and to continue Det. Stanko’s legacy and commitment to the Youth and Community of Allentown, this fundraiser was established to acquire funds to repair and upgrade the current Police Athletic League Building located at 2110 Park Dr. Allentown, PA, which will be dedicated in his name. This building is where Det Stanko would engage 300+ children every year through PAL camp, the Youth Academy, L.I.F.E program, and Youth Mentorship program. Additional funds raised will be utilized for Youth scholarships and future PAL initiatives so that APD youth mentors can attend educational or sport-related programs.

The Mission of Police Athletic League of Allentown PA (Pal) is to stimulate, create, provide and maintain wholesome recreational activities for Youth throughout the City of Allentown, Pennsylvania. Additionally, ongoing educational, community-oriented, and mentorship participants improve our youth's moral, physical, educational, and civic standards. A vital component of this initiative is to promote friendship, fairness, and goodwill among our youth while inspiring a respectful and friendly relationship between youth and Police officers.
